| a. Can you ovulate more than once in a cycle? No. you only ovulate once per cycle. But the best way to think of ovulation is as an event that takes place over 24 hours. During that time you can release one or more eggs, which explains, for example, fraternal twins. If you are getting ferning more than once, check that you are using correctly (drying time, food etc). Some women do get ferning around their menstrual period or in the days after ovulation. However these fern type readings do not relate to ovulation and can be disregarded. It is a good idea to chart your cycle so that you can recognise your personal patterns.

b. When I get full ferning does this mean I am ovulating on this day or is ovulation still 3 to 4 days away? When you see the transitional pattern (ferns and pebbles) you are approaching ovulation and should have intercourse during this period because although you can only fall pregnant when you ovulate, the sperm do survive for around 3 days and can therefore still fertilize the ovum when you ovulate even if you had intercourse a few days earlier.
When you see full ferns you are ovulating and should have intercourse on that day and the next day (as the egg survives approximately 24 hours).

| c. I have been using Maybe Baby for a few months and have had definite transition phase but no full ferning. Does this mean I am not ovulating or am doing something wrong? Not getting full ferning does not mean you are not ovulating. It is just that is just a device and it can only pick up the change in your oestrogen at a certain threshold/level. When your oestrogen levels peak they may not reach the threshold that would make full ferning on the lens however they are rising so you can use that transition period to identify the period around ovulation. It may be useful to note that while you can only get pregnant on the day you ovulate you can try for a few days before and the day afterwards because sperm survive for around 3 days and your egg survives for around 24 hours so you have a period of about 4-5 days in which you can try to conceive.
d. Can I ovulate as late as day 25 or as early as day 7? Ovulation generally occurs 12-16 days (on average 14 days) BEFORE your next menstruation begins. Therefore when you ovulated depends on the length of your cycle. To ovulate on Day 25 your cycle would need to be around 39 days while to ovulate on Day 7 your cycle would be around 21 days.
e. Can I have a period without having ovulated? Yes, it is possible to have an anovulatory period which is when you do not ovulate but still get a period.
| f. I am getting continuous ferning after ovulation – could I be pregnant? Maybe Baby is not a pregnancy test. It is not a reliable indicator of pregnancy and should not be used to gauge pregnancy.
| g. If my Maybe Baby reading goes back to pebbles after ovulation, does that mean that I haven’t fallen pregnant? Maybe Baby is not a pregnancy test and cannot reliably indicate pregnancy. Maybe Baby is designed to help you identify when you are ovulating. After ovulation a transition stage is usually experienced as oestrogen levels lower which is then followed by pebbles until your next transition period. Some women may get transient ferning in the days past ovulation until menstruation (the luteal phase of their cycle) as there is a small relative rise in oestrogen at this time. This is normal and you can disregard these fern patterns. Ovulation should occur around 14 days before menstruation. If don't get your period it may be worth using a pregnancy test to identify if you are pregnant.
